For people, “the purpose of architecture is to create happiness of dwelling”; we believe “happiness” is the premise of residence, instead of quantifiable sections, number of pings and construction materials. If only the method of quantification is used to construct happiness for a house, it would be hard to avoid losing the essence of architecture… i.e. “space”. When “space” is not the “leading character”, meaningless styling vocabulary will fill the sensory nervous system of man.
Under the premise of current global green thoughts, minute and complicated decorative vocabulary should be avoided, so the viewpoint on the “form” of houses should hold the simple and natural law of “less is more”. For modern architecture, are traditional complexity and decoration defined as people’s psychological demands or functional demands? Reduce unnecessary decorations to the minimum and seek simple and elegant principles seem to be people’s common knowledge on aesthetics nowadays. The basic outlook of aesthetics is closely linked with earth resources and the rise of environmental awareness. Under this principle, the decorative features of construction appearances are no longer provided to be viewed and admired by people, but to elevate the dialogue between architecture and man, and more importantly to present the “inner space” of buildings. Space is offered to allow the people living in it to have a place for comprehending life; this is also the thinking that “good houses” must connect “simple aesthetics” and “spatial content”.
Therefore, modern architecture should pay more attention to physical properties, such as fine ventilation, day lighting, energy saving… “Green architecture” is no longer just resorting to ideas, but appealing to the basic morality of construction companies’ brand and image. After conforming to the requirement of energy saving and eco-friendly, the problem of spatial quality must be controlled. The basic physical elements of “sound, light, heat, air and water” must be planned and controlled properly for the physical factors to become “comfort factors” instead of “aversion factors”. Regarding disaster prevention, buildings should be able to provide safe structures, fire control… As for spatial functions, they should satisfy context and good health maintenance for people to be happy, healthy… When the idea of a “beautiful and sound house” can be presented concretely through meticulous planning, the building generated will be a genuine “luxury house”, instead of a hollow business slogan.
At the beginning of construction planning, we must carry out many repeated dialectics regarding the relation between man, land (location and environment) and architecture to find the maximum dimension of land and space, elaborate the land features, harmony and nature, and give the most appropriate interpretation. However, the “persons”, i.e. “customers”, in high rise residences are unknown numbers, so we can only make adjustment with proprietors to reach consensus, and make good effort in people’s lifestyles and the environment. If these issues happen to be consistent with the comprehension of the “users” and gain resonance (touch point), it would be the most wonderful link.
